Anub`arak - The Nerubian Assassin Strategy
Early Game:
Go to the lower lane if you are sentinel and the upper lane it you are scourge. It will be at your advantage if your enemy lives after your combo, you can still chase after them w/o worrying about their tower.
Farming:
If your enemy is a harrasser, hug the tower, but try to get the last hits and deny his/her creeps. Use impale if your enemy creeps have red hp and are in a straight line. This will guarantee more gold and your enemy will not be able to deny successfully, but don’t use impale intil it is at least lvl3. Don’t spam this early, reserve your mana incase your enemy tries to attack you.
Spam thy Mana Burn:
Level 2 Mana Burn against early game nukers such as Rylai to render their spelss useless. This will make them frustrated and might actually lead them to do stupid things like try to harass you even if your creeps are nearby, getting more damaged than they have done to you.
Dagon:
It is important for Anub’arak to acquire a dagon as early as possible, I cannot stress enough the importance of having a dagon at early game. If you’re a really good farmer, you could get a dagon at lvl9, a perfect time to hunt for heroes coz your impale and mana burn are already at lvl4.
Here’s how to do the trick:
Vendetta, attack once(twice or thrice if your enemy does not have a disable eg: razor), impale, attack, manaburn, dagon. If your enemy somehow survives, chase him/her then mana burn.
combo calculation: Vendetta(lvl1)225+Impale(lvl4)300+Mana Burn(lvl4)260+dagon(1)400 = 1185 dmg
+Mana Burn(lvl4)260 (if he survives after the initial combo) = 1445dmg
(note: this does not include your base damage when you attack)
W/ a dagon in your arsenal, you could easily kill heroes everytime your vendetta cools down. Be sure you have full mana each time you try to ambush someone.Use lesser clasrity potions whenever neccessary.
Lack of Mana:
Anub’arak has a starting mana of 234, and gains 27 per level. At level 7, he has 397 mana, not much to go around. When you aqquire your dagon, don’t go rushing in and do a combo recklessly, compute your mana. note that dagon requires 245 mana. A big problem with your little mana pool.
take note of the following before attempting to ambush with vendetta:
Mana Calculations:
impale(lvl4):300dmg/155mana
mana burn(lvl4):260dmg/115mana
vendetta(lvl1):225dmg/160mana
dagon1:400dmg/245mana
vendetta+impale+mana burn = 785dmg/430mana
combo +dagon = 1185dmg/675mana
combo +dagon w/o mana burn = 925dmg/560mana
your mana:
lvl7 = 397 + 2 iron wood branches = 423 + staff of wiz =553mana
you cannot do the full combo yet but can already do the vendetta, impale, mana burn combo w/ one extra mana burn to spare
lvl9 = 452 + 2branches and dagon = 608 + 1null talisman = 686mana
you can now do the full combo with 11 mana to spare
lv10 = 479 + 2branches and dagon = 635 + stat bonus = 661mana
you have a choice of getting either of the two
1 null talisman = 739mana
or
2 more iron wood branches = 687mana
(special thanks to Ninong for bringing up the topic about the shortage of mana
)
————————
with that in mind you have 2 choices, get a null talisman and 2 branches and be able to do the combo at level9 or wait until level10 and get 4 branches to do the combo. It is up to you.
Plan Ahead:
When you aqquire a dagon, don’t be too greedy just because you can kill almost anyone every 90 secs. Do not forget to farm, you wont level-up with hero killing alone, you also need to get a battle fury as early as possible for mid game farming. After a couple of kills w/ dagon, you should get perceverance asap.
notes:
-Use a lesser clarity potion after every kill, you’ll never know if someone is planing a backstab and you need your impale and mana burn in order to escape.
-Abuse thy Vendetta, but don’t be too greedy, you’ll end up getting killed if you’re too reckless. Play it safe.

Middle Game
Mid Game:
At this point in the game, you should focus on farming for a mithril hammer and a claymore so you could farm better. What about hero kills you say? Well, If the oppurtunity comes, then take it. But do not go to the other side of the map just to kill an enemy that your comrade could handle. Im not saying that you should stop killing, you’re an assassin after all and killing is what you’re supposed to do especially at mid-game. Know when to leave your lane to kill, and when to farm safely. Remember that you are investing for a fury, an essential item for farming for your late-game equips.
countering true sight:
After killing heroes a number of times, they’ll prolly get frustrated and buy a gem of true sight or get wards, its not the end of the world, you could still kill them. With a gem/wards, they will prolly get cocky and won’t expect an ambush because they can see when you use vendetta…
A little change in the earlier combo:
Impale, Vendetta(while he is up in the air) attack, manaburn, dagon.
avoid getting raped:
Keep in mind that since you pissed off your enemies during the early game, they are prolly planning to get back by ganking you. You need to be careful in farming and ambushing heroes. If you see an agi hero farming alone, instead of recklessly rushing there for free food, check if the other heroes are seen in the map. The agi hero might be a bait in order to gank on you. If most of the other enemy heroes are at their lanes, then go for the free food. Please do not take any heroes you cannot take. Feel free to ask for help anytime for assistance on killing an enemy.
Transition stage:
You’ll notice that as time goes by, it is harder to kill the enemy heroes w/ your combo. That’s because their hp is getting too high for your combo. They will live with a little remaining hp, just chase them and finish them off with mana burn since it only has a 6sec cooldown. What shoud you do then? Upgrade your dagon to level5? NO. That would be wasting 5400 gold for a measly 400 damage. Instead, buy high damage items.
But First! You need to farm for them! W/ your fury, farming will be a breaze, I suggest you get a helm of dominator so you can solo the enemy creeps. You’ll get yout high-damage items soon enough when late-game starts. But before that time comes, try to farm and kill as much as possible. The end of mid-game usually means the end of the effectiveness of your Vendetta+Impale+Mana Burn+Dagon Combo, you will need raw hits to kill when late game comes.

Late Game
Late Game:
Late game. This is when Anub’arak shifts from a a nuke-type killer to a high-damage melee unit. You could still easily kill your enemies, but it will not be as easy as before where the enemies die before knowing what’s happening. That’s because they have too much hp to be killed w/ your combo.
combo calculation: Vendetta(lvl4)525+Impale(lvl4)300+Mana Burn260+Dagon(still level1) 400 = 1485dmg
(note: remember that this only computes the attack of your combo, remember that you’ll be landing a few solid hits on them when you hit them with vendetta and while they are stunned)
Almost all heroes will now survive this combo, even int heroes will survive with red life. But don’t fret, this is when you get the items that will make you even more fearsome.
Late game is where the major pushes and battles occur, with your fury and dominator, you’ll be able to earn gold with ease and buy damaging items to compensate the now ineffective combo. Save up for an MKB first coz it increases your attack and also your aspd, and a chance to deal and extra 90 damage.
Now you have your MKB with you, now what?
With the MKB, just Vendetta and hit until they realize what’s happening; their death is inevitable and start running away. When they get out of your range of hitting just impale and continue hitting. Now they should be dead or really low health in which case a mana burn and/or dagon should suffice.
—————————————–
The game usually ends at this point. If you’ve done a great job constantly killing your enemies so that they could not get the proper items and will be out-leveled. But if your enemies suddenly for some reason make a comeback, which is not likely. Possible, but not likely. These are the items that you should buy if the game continues:
Your key items at this point would be
Power Treads, Dagon1, Battle Fury, Helm of the Dominator and MKB
Your next item should be a satanic, it complements your high armor and spiked carapace. You could now play the role of a tank during team battles. Melee enemies will now truly fear you because of your high hp, high armor and return damage.
Another optional item is a butterfly for additional aspd, attack and flee.
It really is up to you, that is why I emphasized the importance of getting a fury asap coz Anub’arak is not effective at late game without good items.

Super Late Game:
Now if by some miracle of god, the game still continues, you will no longer have the spotlight at this stage. But that’s OK since you hogged it at the first two stages(and the first part of late game) anyways. Time to finish the game before your enemies can farm and make a huge comeback. Since you aleady have six items, you might want to sell your dagon and replace it with any item you like, it depends on the situation. A dagon1 at level25 would only do as much as tickle the enemy. What happens next is completely up to you, but I do suggest that you make one big push and end the game.

Other stuff
Conclusion:
Anub’arak is a relatively easy hero to use, you just need fast hand reflexes.
I will be using the remaining part for additional tips and techniques.
Things to remember:
-Anub’arak is one of the best early game harassers because of mana burn and impale. Whenever a hero in your lane has regenerated enough mana to use a spell, use mana burn on that hero. If they come too close to your creeps or tower, impale them.
-When the enemy is attacking your tower wait for about 1 or 2 of their creeps to die and then Impale the enemy hero at the range of the tower. When hit a couple of times by a tower, he will be forced to heal at the fountain. Also be aware of this when you’re the one pushing their tower.
-At early game, if your enemy has about half health and still staying in the lane, you can try and ambush them with a teammate. Level 2 to 3 impale should be able to take a hero down by a quarter of their hp.
-When ambushing a hero, wait until you can reach the hero within 7 seconds of walking before casting vendetta. This is to make sure that Vendetta is not wasted if they return and also to give additional time if your target has an ally near him.
-Always check the remaining mana of your enemy, you do not want to mana Burn an enemy who only has 20 mana. You should stop burning the enemy’s mana before you do a vendetta combo, the enemy needs mana for you to effectively use mana burn against them.
-Do not take on any heroes you cannot kill. Feel free to ask for help anytime for assistance on killing an enemy. This is a team game after all.
-Gems/Wards are not a real threat to you because you do not necessarily rely on your invisibility when sneaking up on people at some extent. You will need to Vendetta close to the enemy in order to kill them, but it’s just as easy to run around some trees and appear from behind them. Refer to mid-game strategy.
>>Where are the Blademails?<<
-A Blademail is an optional item, it really depends on the situation really. That is why I left an empty slot(sell the dagon one at late game) for optional items.
>>Why not upgrade to Dagon5?<<
-Dagon will work well on Anub’arak because you can boost your combo damage. But remember that as time passes by, it will be harder to kill the enemy as their hp goes up. Spending 1500 for every 100dmg added is just not worth it. If you decide to upgrade it all the way to dagon5 damage, you are spending 6000 gold just upgrade your nuke from 400dmg to 800dmg. 6000 for an additional 400 damage? It’s just not worth it. The attribbeutes bonus is tiny(every dagon upgrade gives you an additional 2 int), so is the extra damage which is not needed anyway. It might give you better burst damage, but leaves you with little use in later team battles because you spent your 6000 on building up your dagon instead of getting damaging items.
My conclusion: Dagon 1 will suffice and will work wonders until late game comes where you may choose to sell it as it will only tickle your enemies at lvl25.
